Public Policy

“The excellence of the method and significant results achieved in terms of the full attention granted to families in situations of extreme vulnerability were decisive in terms of choosing the experience of the Saúde Criança Association as a social technology that could become a public policy in the Municipality of Belo Horizonte. Accordingly, we developed the Família Cidadã: BH sem miséria (Citizen Family: Poverty-Free BH) Project, the result of a solid partnership based on common goals, with the recognition of the families as decisive (and not passive) actors when establishing the goals to be reached and the understanding that, in a country with such a high level of inequality, only the involvement and union of the different sectors of society are what will bring about true social change," Marcelo Mourão, Coordination Manager for the BH Cidadania Program

In order to expand the Saúde Criança Association model and significantly increase the impact of our work, ASC made efforts to transform this methodology into a public policy. The first successful example of this model of operations was with the Belo Horizonte City Government, resulting in the creation of the program “Família Cidadã: BH sem miséria” (Citizen Family: Poverty-Free BH). The partnership is based on a vision of full assistance for the family, balancing governmental and non-governmental actions to promote rights and achieve immediate improvements in the living conditions of the assisted families.

The dialogue between the two institutions was promoted by AVINA.
